What 4mm toughened glass is used for

Mostly greenhouse repairs, shed windows and light table protectors. It is the lightest and cheapest of the four. For a shelf that carries weight, or a table top, go to 6mm or thicker.

What 4mm toughened glass costs

Example prices including VAT. The calculator gives the exact price for your size. Arrised (smoothed) edges are included; polished edges are £4.40 a metre. The smallest pane we charge for is 0.25 square metres (500 x 500mm), £17.25.

UK delivery is £8.95 an order, free over £200. The largest pane we send from an online order is 1200mm x 1000mm. For anything bigger ring 0151 342 7335.

Weight

4mm glass weighs about 10kg per square metre, so a 1000 x 500mm pane is about 5kg.

How to measure

Give us the finished glass size. If the pane sits in a frame or against tiles, take 2 to 3mm off each edge as a fitting tolerance. We cut to a tolerance of plus or minus 2mm. Toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled after it is made, so check your sizes twice before you order.

Not for stoves

Stove and fire glass is a heat resistant glass ceramic, not toughened glass. Do not use this in a stove door: see stove glass cut to size.
