Yes, our glass hearths are resistant to temperature changes and, as such, can be used with log burners.

However, a hearth must also meet the requirements of your stove as well as the relevant Building Regulations, so be sure to check the appliance manufacturer’s instructions before placing an order with us.

It depends on the stove and the installation. Some appliances are tested for use with a non-combustible hearth at least 12mm thick, and other installations require a more substantial constructional hearth.

In Approved Document J, guidance states that certain appliances can stand on a non-combustible hearth at least 12mm thick, provided the appliance isn’t installed in a recess and has been tested to make sure the hearth surface will not exceed 100°C.

If you’re choosing a glass hearth for a wood stove, again, it’s essential to double-check your stove manufacturer’s requirements.

When you purchase a toughened glass hearth for a log burner, it has been heat-treated to around 600-620º, then quickly cooled – this puts the outer surface under compression and the core under tension.

So, in the unlikely event that the hearth is damaged and breaks, it should fragment into many small, blunt-edged pieces, not large, sharp shards.
